IFS & EMDR Therapy

At The Niagara Centre for Healing & Recovery we are certified in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Both of these evidenced-based psychotherapies are powerful modalities that promote healing and self-discovery.

IFS and EMDR Therapy

IFS (Internal Family Systems) is a transformative, evidence-based psychotherapy that helps people heal by accessing and building relationship with their protective and wounded inner parts. This form of therapy is non-pathologizing, empowering, and facilitates deep transformation within oneself and in relationship to others. IFS therapy focuses on understanding and harmonizing the various parts of the self, fostering internal communication and balance.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is a style of therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic memories. The therapist utilizes bilateral stimulation (movement of the eyes, tapping, or tones) while the client engages in a guided exercise where they are asked to think about and feel their way through anything that may come up. EMDR therapy is renowned for its effectiveness in alleviating trauma symptoms by reprocessing distressing memories.

Together, these therapies provide an adapative approach to mental wellness, helping individuals navigate their emotional landscapes and achieve lasting success. The integration of EMDR and IFS therapy complements and enhances recovery from complex trauma and addictive processes because it allows a person more space between thought and action, moving out of survival mode to thriving mode, supporting all the amazing recovery work they have done to create a new life.
